Holy Icons
Description of some icons from the Holy Church of Saint John in Neo Prokopi, Evia
Out of the many icons found in the Holy Church of St. John the Russian in Procopi, may we describe only a few, some of which were brought over by refugees from Asia Minor. Immersed in the divinely inspired teachings and the tradition of the Church, those refugees chose to bring these icons with them rather than their many material goods; they carried them with indescribable sacrifices and pain, and always saw them as guardians and sources of support in that new, unknown and painful phase of their lives.
In this manner, they proved the meaning of the enlightened remark of Saint Basil of Caesarea in practice, namely that “the honour paid to the image passes on to the prototype” (On the Holy Spirit, 18:45).
